Brief Introduction of Combined Drawing Machine

The combined drawing machine, also known as a multi-die drawing machine or continuous drawing machine, is a mechanical device used for processing metal wire. It is primarily used to draw thicker metal wires into rods continuously through multiple drawing dies. This equipment is widely used in industries such as steel and non-ferrous metal processing, especially in the production of products like electric wires and cables, spring steel wires, and welding wires.

Main Components

  • Pay-off Device: Used to fix and release the original thicker metal wire material .

  • Drawing Dies: Multiple dies arranged in sequence, with each die having a progressively smaller aperture. The wire is gradually thinned as it passes through these dies.

  • Traction Device: Provides the necessary pulling force for drawing, usually consisting of motor-driven rollers.

  • Cooling System: Since a large amount of heat is generated due to friction during the drawing process, the cooling system reduces the temperature of the wire and dies to ensure proper operation.

  • Take-up Device: Winds the drawn fine wire into coils or rolls.

Working Principle

The working principle of the combined drawing machine involves plastic deformation of metal wire through drawing dies. Under the force of the traction device, the wire sequentially passes through multiple dies, each with a decreasing aperture, causing the wire to become progressively thinner. During the drawing process, the cooling system continuously cools the wire and dies to prevent material property changes or die damage caused by high temperatures. with help of shearing unit and straightening machines, the wires after drawing will be straightened and cut into round rods or hexgaonal rods, flat rods, square rods…etc.

Application Fields

  • Wire and Cable Industry: Used to produce wires and cables of various specifications.

  • Spring Manufacturing: Used for producing various spring steel wires.

  • Welding Materials: Used in the production of welding wires.

  • Metal Products: Used in the manufacture of other metal products requiring fine wire.

Advantages

  • High Efficiency: Capable of completing multiple drawing steps in a single process, resulting in high productivity.

  • High Precision: With precise control over the dies and pulling force, wire with accurate dimensions can be produced.

  • Good Surface Quality: The drawn wire has a smooth surface with no visible defects.

  • Low Energy Consumption: Compared to single-pass drawing, the combined drawing machine consumes less energy.

  • High Straightness. There is 2-roller straightener in the end to straighten the rods after shearing. Straightness can be lower to 0.2mm/m.

Development Trends

With technological advancements, combined drawing machines continue to evolve. Key trends include:

  • Automation: Enhanced automation through the addition of automatic control systems.

  • Intelligence: Implementation of smart monitoring and fault diagnosis systems to increase machine intelligence.

  • Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency: Improved designs and processes to lower energy consumption and reduce environmental impact.
